ASPCA's Rescuing Racers Initiative Awards Grant from the Equine Fund to FFI
Friends of Ferdinand, Inc. (FFI) is pleased to announce that it has received a 2016 grant from the ASPCA Equine Fund. This grant will fund FFI's adoption program by helping to offset the direct expenses of rehabilitation, lay-up, veterinary/medical and retraining expenses. This grant impacts all aspects of transitioning a thoroughbred from the racetrack to a second career.
ASPCA has been a long-time supporter of Friends of Ferdinand and we are grateful for their continued endorsement and support. We rely on the work and support from the ASPCA Equine Fund team to be able to continue to be a safety net for horses retiring from racing in the Midwest.
ASPCA was the first humane society established in the United States and is one of the largest currently, assisting all types of animals. More than 2 million people support the ASPCA and their mission of preventing animal cruelty.
Friends of Ferdinand Inc. (FFI) is an Indiana-based non-profit which strives to provide ex-racehorses with the retraining they need to find steady homes beyond the racetrack. Horses that have gone through the FFI retraining program have found second careers as eventers, hunter/jumpers, dressage mounts, trail horses, and more. FFI, with the motto “retired from racing, not from life”, is accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. http://www.friendsofferdinand.com
